It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a testament to his love for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Legend has it that Shah Jahan was completely smitten by the beauty of Mumtaz Mahal from the moment they met.

Tragedy struck when Mumtaz Mahal passed away while giving birth to their child. Devastated by the loss, Shah Jahan vowed to honor her memory in the most magnificent way possible. And so, the construction of the Taj Mahal began.
