3 Real-life Haunted Houses That Will Give You The Chills!

Beware, beware, this one is not for the faint-hearted! On dark winter nights, we have all experienced doors creaking open on their own, pets screaming their lungs out, or some noises coming from nowhere, but haunted houses are much more than that…

For years, we’ve watched movies and read stories about lost spirits, ghosts, and the underworld. But real-life haunted houses can be a lot scarier! There are countless houses from the east to the west filled with spirits waiting for that white light at the end of the tunnel and until they find it, we are stuck answering to them. During our research, we came across 3 real-life haunted houses that make the fearless and bravest stop dead in their tracks. Keep on reading to know more about the 3 spookiest haunted houses in the world!

1. The Perron Family

The Perron family has one of the scariest stories in history, where they occupied a haunted house for over a decade. In 1971, the family moved into a farmhouse in Rhode Island, immediately after they moved in, strange things started happening. The incidents started with small things, like a misplaced item or some scrapping sounds.

Soon after that, the children started noticing spirits around the house. Most of them were quite harmless but others were angry and quite violent. Through some research, the Perron family learned that the house was previously owned by one family for eight generations and many of them died under mysterious circumstances.

The spirits started getting louder and more violent, some days the girls’ beds’ will move while they are sleeping. On other days they will feel the cold presence of the spirits with them. But the real unnerving event happened one random night when the mother’s chair elevated from the ground and she started speaking in what her own daughter described as “language not of this world in a voice not her own.”

The Perron family with the help of two famous demonologists performed a séance to get the spirits out, it was unclear how successful the séance was. But in 1980, the family was finally financially stable enough to move out. Maybe the spirits left or maybe the Perron family got tired of telling the world what was happening inside their home..we’ll never know. This horrifying story was the main inspiration behind the famous horror movie, The Conjuring.

2. The Chelsea Hotel

One of the spookiest landmarks in the world is the Chelsea Hotel. Although the hotel has been home to countless notable artists, musicians, and writers, it has also been home to horrific deaths. The Chelsea hotel first opened its doors in 1884 and for years the stories of the supernatural never stopped.

Some of the famous stories are about the vain and hand ghosts. The vain ghost or as she probably likes to be called Mary was a Titanic survivor that haunts the fifth floor of the hotel. Mary survived the horrors of the Titanic but unfortunately, her husband didn’t. This led Mary to a state of depression and sadness for years, ending in her suicide at the Chelsea Hotel. Mary is an unharmful ghost, she just roams the floor watching herself in mirrors. As long as you don’t disturb the vain ghost, she won’t disturb you.

After a decade of Mary’s tragic death, another young woman committed suicide and entered the realm of the Chelsea Hotel’s spirits. Nadia was an artist that fell in love with an alcoholic man. She quickly left her dreams behind to get married and raise her children. Only in her twenties, Nadia fell into a deep depression. One day while staying in the Chelsea Hotel with her wealthy parents, who degraded her, the woman decided to cut her hands. Using industrial scissors she cut her right hand but the pain was unbearable so she flung herself from the window. The ghost of Nadia is seen trying to get back into the hotel and her hands waiting calmly in the room.

The Chelsea hotel witnessed many other horrible deaths including heroin overdose, alcohol poisoning, suicide, and murder. To this day, you can book a night in the Chelsea Hotel and see for yourself the true horrors in its rooms.

3. The Herrmann House

On a cold February night in 1953, James Herrmann got a frantic phone call from his wife, informing him that their children heard sounds of popping coming from different parts of the house. After investigating, the family found uncapped bottles of various substances including a vial of holy water. This was only the first thing in a series of unfortunate events. But at that point, the family still thought there must be a logical explanation.

In the same week, James Hermann witnessed first-handed bottles moving and falling in his bathroom on their own. Still skeptical, the Hermanns went to the police for guidance. The police department started investigating the case and every newspaper in the country picked up the story. In just two weeks, the Herrmann house became one of the hottest topics across New York.

Chairs started turning upside down, constant knocking on the walls, and large pieces of furniture started moving. All that prompted the Hermann family to ask for help from the masses. People started writing letters and calling them every minute but no one can offer a solution. The largest incident in the Hermann house was a porcelain figurine that launched itself from a table and smashed against a desk more than 12 feet away. After 67 other disturbances in the short period from February 3 to March 10, whatever was in the Hermann house decided to move along.

What makes the Hermann story spine-chilling and horrifying is that the house is modern and at that point, it was only a couple of years old. Not really where you expect this kind of stuff to be. This story actually inspired the popular American scary movie, Poltergeist.
