North Coast Road | A New Road To Your Destination

The Egyptian government has been putting a lot of effort into developing the road network throughout the country’s cities, with a focus on travel routes, to save time and facilitate travel trips to all regions. One particular area that has seen a lot of development is the North Coast, which became a popular tourist destination during the summer months. To further improve travel to and from this region, the government decided to construct a new road called the “New North Coast Road” or “New Fouka Road,” which links Cairo and the North Coast.

Fouka Road is one of the latest and most ambitious road projects in Egypt. It nearly halves the travel time between Cairo and the coast, at a length of 197 kilometers. The cost of the project is a staggering 2 billion dollars.
The New Fouka Road or El Alamein Road – Wadi El Natroun is part of a larger plan to develop the coastal areas of Egypt, with the northern coast being of primary importance.
The New Fouka Road is a highway that connects Cairo, specifically the 6th of October City, and reaches the North Coast, passing through several villages and important tourist areas.
The road was designed to the latest engineering standards, with consideration that the road needs to be sturdy in different weather conditions, from heavy rain to high temperatures. The road is made up of two lanes; each lane can fit two cars side by side. There are also concrete barriers situated between the two lanes, 8 meters wide.
The New Coast Road is an expressway that starts from Juhayna Square in October and reaches Fouka Village in New Alamein. The advantage of the road is that it is faster than the traditional coastal travel route. Instead of taking 3 or 4 hours, you can reach the northern coast in just two hours.
The distance between Cairo and Marsa Matrouh is set to decrease by around 140 kilometers. This would mean that the journey time from Cairo to Matrouh would be cut down to just 4 hours. This would be a significant time-saving for anyone making the trip.
Accommodating more cars is one way to eliminate congestion. By increasing the number of lanes or widening existing lanes, you can get more cars through. This is especially important during peak times when traffic is at its heaviest.

The New North Coast Road’s Issues

There are no clear signposts on the road, although there are certain lanes. The lack of adequate lighting makes it hard to see at night, which can be dangerous. Trailers and large transport vehicles often run in other than their designated lanes, which can be a problem. There are also issues with the quality of the road, which can impact cars traveling at high speeds. Government efforts to develop the area are not well-coordinated, which creates problems for tourists trying to visit the scattered villages. Cars often pile up in queues in front of the villages, making it difficult to enter them.
