Naguib Onsi Sawiris, the eldest of three brothers was born in 1954 to a wealthy family that owned the Orascom Group for contracting, telecommunications, technology, and development.

Returning to Egypt, Sawiris started a business with one of his friends but, later his father Onsi, approached him to join the family business. The thing that he did in 1979 by establishing Orascom Group’s railway, information technology, and telecommunications sectors.

Currently, he is the executive chairman of Orascom Telecom Media and Technology Holding S.A.E. (OTMT which has shares in Egypt and Italian internet company Italiaonline.

Later in July 2011, Sawiris was granted the Honor of Commander of the Order of the “Stella della Solidarietà Italiana” (Star of Italian Solidarity)with the rank of Commander. That was for his outstanding contribution to the Italian economy.
Also, he was awarded The French Legion d’honneur, with the rank of Commander which is the highest honor awarded by the French Republic. That was in recognition of outstanding efforts in serving France.
Finally, Sawiris was granted an honorary doctorate of Law by Handong Global University of South Korea in 2021.
