Back in 1923, 19-year-old Hassan Allam left his life in Port Said and his father’s construction supplies store behind to embark on a journey and start his own business in Cairo. The young entrepreneur started with an informal small contracting company.
Fast forward to 1936, the entrepreneur founded his first official firm, Hassan Mohammed Allam & Co. Only 2 years after that, the company already made headlines with its first major contract establishing El Kassaseen Hospital.
After this project, more contracts started flowing in varying from power plants and refineries to a myriad of other infrastructure projects.
Around that time, the entrepreneur unknowingly protected future President Anwar El-Sadat avoid political persecution as he posed as a truck driver working in the company.
Following the 1952 revolution, the company thrived and successfully executed numerous major roads and highways. These include but are not limited to; Alexandria – Marsa Matrouh Road, Suez – Marsa Alam Road, and Ismalia – Arish Road.
Under the socialist system, the company was fully nationalized but the family was still running it with Hassan Mohamed Allam as Chairman of the board and 3 of his sons as board directors.
However, with the private sector regaining its force in the 1970s, Hassan Allam established a new enterprise – Hassan Allam Sons – and even started tapping into new markets.
Over the years, the company managed to make a name for itself as one of the top companies and currently has projects in 7 countries all around the globe.
After decades of tremendous success, the world lost one of its best entrepreneurs and thousands of mourners said goodbye to Hassan Mohamed Allam with the crowd extending from Omar Makram Mosque almost up to the Ramesses Hilton.
